The Heart Foundation is Australia's leading heart health charity, funded
almost entirely by the generous donations of individuals and corporations.
Heart and blood vessel diseases are the main cause of death in Australia,
killing more than 50,000 Australians each year, or one person every ten
minutes.
Heart disease is the number one cause of death for men and women, and
kills four times more women than breast cancer.
The Heart Foundation aims to improve the heart health of Australians and
to reduce disability and death from heart, stroke and blood vessel disease.
Heart disease touches every family, but there is so much more to discover,
as around 40% of deaths from heart disease are unexplained.
Since 1959, the Heart Foundation has invested more than $177m in
research to reduce suffering and death from heart, stroke and blood
vessel disease, to save and improve Australian lives.
We develop best practice treatment guidelines for health professionals,
fund community education and health programs, and run the highly
recognised and respected Tick Food Information Program so that
shoppers can make healthier food choices.
